French onion soup has won almost the whole world and is served in many famous restaurants and cafes at a very expensive price. But if you count all the cost of such a first dish, then it comes out so low that you and I can enjoy so hot even every day!

By the way, this soup was actually invented by the French, but by no means the cooks. The French themselves ascribed its creation to King Louis XV of France. He wanted to eat during the hunt, and only a bow, champagne and some oil were stored in the hunting lodge. The courtier mixed all these ingredients and turned them into a very popular dish today.

For many centuries, the recipe has undergone a lot of changes, but the main products remained unchanged. Since we are going to prepare a budget version of onion soup, we will exclude champagne or white wine from the list, but you will definitely need to add it if you plan to prepare the soup for a festive occasion.

Ingredients required for 2 servings of soup:

- 3 medium onions;

- 2 slices of white bread;

- 50 grams of hard cheese;

- 20 g butter;

- 2-3 pinches of salt.

Such an appetizing and flavorful dish is prepared very quickly, so you can be sure that you will need only 15-20 minutes to prepare it. The leek will be the ideal option for the base soup, but if it is not available on store shelves or on the market, then prepare the first of the usual onions - it will also work fine! First of all peel the onions and rinse them in water. Then melt the butter in a saucepan or saucepan. Instead, it can be used and vegetable, but with a dairy product, the taste of the soup turns out to be much more tender and fragrant!

Then cut the onion into half rings and add to the skillet. Pass it for 10 minutes until soft and pour in hot water.

If you like thick soups, pour a little wheat flour into the liquid and mix with a whisk right away to avoid lumps. Put salt in onion broth and cook for about 5-7 minutes. Optionally, you can add a few bay leaves - they will give the soup a light spicy flavor.

Cut the cheese into small slices and place it on slices of bread.

Choose cheese of more solid grades - they form a crisp on the surface of the bread. Soft cheeses are more likely to melt. Place the slices of bread and cheese in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes, making sure that the cheese is not completely melted. Stick to a temperature of 150-160C. As soon as you feel the delicious aroma of cheese toasts, then it is time to get them.

Pour the onion broth into a deep broth or plate.

Then lay the bow itself. On top, place the bread toast with cheese and garnish with any greens as desired. This French onion soup is ready, though without champagne, but no one forbade him to combine in a duet with such a fragrant first course. Enjoy your meal!

To see firsthand that such a tasty hot can be inexpensive, let's calculate its cost:

- 3 onions - 5 rubles .;

- 2 slices of bread - 2 rubles .;

- 50 grams of cheese - 10 rubles .;

- 20 g of butter - 5 rubles.

Total: 2 servings of fragrant onion soup cost us 22 rubles, which means if you cook only for yourself, then one portion of the soup will cost 11 rubles!
