Want to have a baby? Now is the time to think about it seriously: men have sperm that are healthier in winter and spring, say Israeli Ben Gurion University staff say. These findings are based on a study of the quality of more than 6,000 semen samples. We evaluated such parameters as the concentration and volume of seminal fluid, the number of motile spermatozoa, their shape, and many others.

Seed fluid of normal quality, and therefore more likely to successfully fertilize an egg, was seen in samples collected in winter. Researchers concluded that the sperm quality of men, and therefore their fertility, may be subject to seasonal fluctuations. Moreover, different parameters manifest themselves differently in different seasons of the year.

So, in samples of seminal fluid with normal concentration, the number of spermatozoa gradually increased during the spring months. The largest number of motile sperm cells was observed in June-August, and the smallest - in December-February. However, sperm growth in the summer was due to slowly moving sperm.

As for the liquid with a low concentration, it functioned best in the summer and autumn, as the percentage of motile sperm cells during this period was the highest. The largest number of spermatozoa with normal morphology was recorded in the spring.

The volume, as a rule, remained during the year.

The best way for a man to improve his fertility is to avoid alcohol and smoking, and also try to maintain a healthy weight.
